I’d like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet today. I would also like to pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.
I’m sick to death of people making assumptions about someone based on their age.
The worst offenders are young people who seem to think, if a person is 30+, they are past it.
You know what, totally untrue.
Young people forget, especially those in the #LGBTIQA+ community, older people have fought for your rights to be legally recognised and accepted as an equal.
However, many other people have also forged the way too.
Just because someone is older and still breathing, doesn’t mean they are past it.
I’m 57, and still fit and healthy, despite having #COVID several months ago. I have never been so sick in my life as I have been since testing positive, thankfully, I’m getting better.
Growing up I was told to respect my elders, despite not agreeing all the time with them, I still respected them.
However, these days, many young people see older people as a burden on society, which is toxic and needs to stop immediately.
If everyone stopped to chat with others, especially those outside our family and generations, I feel each will be educated.
I love chatting with people much younger than myself, as not only do they educate me, however, I feel much younger.
Businesses need to stop rejecting job applicants because they are “Over Qualified.”
Being over qualified, does not mean an applicant is unable to do the job they have applied for, because honestly, they have life experience, which they can bring to a business.
Another thing, many people baulk at are Age Gap Friendships (AGF’s) and/or Relationships (AGR’s).
My best friend is over 30 years younger than me, and she educates me quite a bit, especially about where she currently resides. She does not reside in Australia.
The only time I will be more cautious with AGF’s, is if the younger person is under age. I will not allow either to be alone in private until the younger person is of legal age, and both feel 10000000000% comfortable.
Despite what others assume about me, I have morals and would never engage in any type of illegal activity, especially with or to a minor, as it is no worth the hassles.
FYI: When I befriend someone, it means I’m willing to be educated by the person, nothing further.
Anyone who makes assumptions, is toxic and needs to get
A LIFE.
By communicating better, not only will we become better winners, but also more educated.
Who knows, if you chat with someone much older, you may learn firsthand about historical events.
Honestly, despite written materials, I still like to get another perspective.
I would like to make this suggestion to every winner reading this:
“No matter your age, Please give others a fair go, and treat each how YOU want to be treated.”
Finally, Unless I have information in writing, both from others and from me, I will not believe anything verbally.
This is due to being let down by others in the past.
I RARELY TRUST ANYTHING VERBALLY GIVEN TO ME.
